December Secretary's Report
This report details the day to day activities of the ASCA Board of Directors and includes issues brought before the ASCA Board and communications done by mail, fax, e-mail and/or phone.
December 1 - 31, 2001
01:10 AUSSIE TIMES - Membership Drive
Motion by DeChant, second by Davenport. I move that some of the extra issues of the new Aussie Times be sent out each month to people who have not renewed their Membership in the last year with a cover letter saying we miss them and encourage them to come back.
Comments: It was brought to our attention that our Membership has dropped dramatically from the period just before last year's Nationals to the period just before this year's Nationals. We could do this type of Membership Drive using our new Aussie Times. We could send to a small list each month. Lola has affirmed that she can come up with a list of the people to whom we would send these. Board voting: Approve: Aufox, Warren, Gray, Davenport, DeChant & Adolphson. Disapprove: Berryessa, Trumbull-Clark & Toft. Motion is approved.
98:15 OBEDIENCE COMMITTEE - Recommendation, Ch. 4. Sec. 10
Motion by Trumbull-Clark, Liaison for the obedience Committee. Directors: I move to accept the following Obedience Committee recommendation. The Obedience Committee recommends adding the Leonberger to the list of dogs required to jump three quarters (3/4) of their height at the withers. This changes the Obedience Rules, Chapter 4 Open, Section 10 Retrieve over High Jump, fourth paragraph to read "The minimum jump shall be set at the nearest multiple of two (2) inches to three quarters (3.4) the height of the dog at the withers for the following breeds: Leonbergers, Great Pyrenees, etc." This to take effect January 1, 2002. Motion by Link, second Bohren, approved Link Bohren Burlingame Evans Case White Mann, Willems, Swatko, Hamelin, Cyboron. Board Voting: Approve: Unanimous. Motion is approved.
98:02 MVA COMMITTEE - MVA Qualifying Ribbons
Motion by Warren, MVA Committee Liaison.
I move to accept the following MVA recommendation.
The following recommendation is made by the MVA Committee upon motion set forth below to replace #4 in the MOST VERSATILE RULES in the ASCA NATIONALS SPECIALTIES GUIDELINES. The motion was made by Dee Dee Baldwin and seconded by Anne Shope and approved unanimously October 22, 2001, by all MVA committee members as named below: Dee Dee Baldwin, Allison Bryant, Sandra Katzen, Monica Barger, Renee Reschenthaler, Lori Acierto, Debra St. Jacques, Andrea Hoffman, Chris Davies, Terry Tomascik, Sandra Case Anne Shope
ORIGINAL #4 "All entrants who successfully earn scores as required by these rules shall be placed first through tenth." TO BE REPLACED WITH THE LANGUAGE IN THE MOTION BELOW:
MOTION: (REPLACEMENT LANGUAGE) All MVA entrants who qualify in conformation and who successfully earned qualifying scores in herding, and either obedience, and/or agility and/or tracking as required by these rules shall be presented with a qualifying strip ribbon at the MVA awards presentation with the top ten qualifiers receiving rosette placement ribbons."
Effective date 30 days after it's appearance in the Aussie Times with approval of the 2002 hosting club.
COMMENT: The Committee felt it was time to award those MVA teams qualifying. To date, a rosette participant ribbon is given to all MVA participants and rosette placement ribbons to first through tenth MVA qualifiers. The MVA qualifiers not placing first through tenth were not recognized at all. The Committee understands the effort, time and money expended in qualifying and felt that those who do qualify should be recognized. The Committee felt that all participants should continue to receive a participant ribbon (handed out at the conformation evaluation) and first through tenth MVA qualifiers a rosette placement ribbon, and those other MVA qualifiers receive a qualifying strip ribbon that can easily be glued or stapled by them to their participant ribbon. Cost would be minimal to any host club. In other venues of competition, the qualifiers receive a qualifying ribbon; the Committee felt that the MVA program needs to follow suit. The Committee is obviously hoping this can take affect at the 2002 Nationals if passed timely and approved the host club.
Thanks, Anne Shope, MVA Chair
Board Voting: Approve: Unanimous. Motion is approved.
Re: 93:17 STOCK DOG RULES - GENERAL REGULATIONS Section 3.g.4.
Motion by Warren, Liaison to the Stock Dog Committee.
I move to accept the following SDC recommendation.
Chapter 3 GENERAL REGULATIONS Section 3.g.4.
Motion to change CH. 3 Sec. 3.g.4 to:
4. The same dog may enter in either the Advanced or Post-Advanced Division in the same sanctioned Trial but not both.
Comments: When this rule was originally made we did not see clubs sanctioning more than one trial per day. Now we do and there is a need to change the rule so clubs can fill the runs and cover expenses when offering these Divisions.
Motion by Mackenzie seconded by Simmons Approve: Mackenzie, Holmes, Simmons, Harris, Mahoney, Myrick, Walter, Schvaneveldt Non-Voting: Sutherland, Robinson, Baker, Bailie, Walker Motion passes
Board voting: Approve: Davenport, Aufox, Warren, Gray, Toft, DeChant & Adolphson. Disapprove: Trumbull-Clark Non-Voting: Berryessa. Motion is approved.
Approved: Kristin Rush as an ASCA Approved Breeder Judge Lora Cox as a Member of the Obedience Committee 2002 Legal Service Retainer for the legal services of Charles W. Carnese, Esq.
