January 2004 Secretarys Report

This report details the day to day activities of the ASCA Board of Directors and includes issues brought before the ASCA Board and communications done by mail, fax, e-mail and/or phone.

January 1 - 31, 2004

98:05  CONFORMATION COMMITTEE - Altered
Motion by Davenport.
I move the following Conformation Committee motion:

 

Motion by Beth Peterson, seconded by Margi Floyd
I move to accept the A-CH as a qualifying conformation title for all of ASCA's Hall of Fame requirements

Author's Comments:  This motion correlates with the 2003 General Membership Altered Conformation Survey results (91% voting yes) to accept the A-CH towards HOF recognition.

Committee vote: Margi Floyd, Kim Cochran, Liz Gibson, Denise Creelman, Glenda Stephenson, Rick Gann, Mary Hellmeister, Wendy Finsterwald &Beth Peterson Against: Wendy Summers and Peter Kontos

Comments: HOF eligibility does not add to nor detract from the validity of an earned title. One purpose of the Altered program is to encourage and enable participation by newcomers to the Conformation Venue. Inclusion of this program, at this time, in a Breeder's Recognition Program such as HOF would change the growth and development of the Altered program and undermine one of the program's original goals. Wendy Summers.  Motion Passes this Committee and will be forwarded to the BOD.

Directors voting:  Approve:  Unanimous.  Motion is approved.

Note: At the Aussie Times deadline, the Board of Directors is working on a Motion to allow Members to vote on this issue with the ballot for the 2004 elections.

98:05  CONFORMATION COMMMITTEE -  Section 9
Motion by Davenport.
I move the following motion from the Conformation Committee:

Motion by Beth Peterson, seconded by Liz Gibson
Include the following paragraph regarding "attacking" dogs to Section 9 of the ASCA Show Rules and Regulations as paragraph 9.14:

"A dog that in the opinion of the judge attacks any person or dog in the ring shall be disqualified. When the judge disqualifies the dog, he shall mark the dog "Disqualified," stating the reason in the judge's book. When a dog has been disqualified under this Section, any awards won at that show by the disqualified dog shall be canceled and the dog may not again compete unless and until, following application by the owner to ASCA, the owner has received official notification from ASCA that the dog's show eligibility has been reinstated."

Author's Comments:  This motion is based on the suggestion sent to this committee by BOD Shelly Hollen to address the issue of dogs which actually attack in the ring.
