Agility Committee Report September-October 2010

Hello everyone!
We hope everyone has a safe journey to the Nationals. We are looking forward to seeing all the awesome dogs from across the country in Waco. Good luck and clean runs to everyone!
The committee has increased the sanctioning timeline for an agility trial to 60 days before the trial. The change will take effect on August 1st, 2010 for all trials sanctioned after October 1st. We were aware that the timelines listed in certain parts of the rulebook were not enforceable if affiliates were hiring judges and sanctioning trials in only 45 days. Hopefully, everyone can abide by the following timelines for a smoother course design and review process. The change will allow judges more time to design courses and course reviewers more time to review them. Please review the June 1 rulebook (available online at asca.org under Forms and Rulebooks), specifically Chapter 10, Section 10.5 and Appendix C, Section 5.
The agility rulebook has undergone extensive http://www.asca.org/Portals/0/agility4.jpgreorganization. Thanks to Sherry Butler and Sue Graham for undertaking this task. The goal was to group the topics to make it easier to find rules and improve readability. The actual rule changes are highlighted, but in general there were not a lot of changes, just lots of reorganization. Please take some time to review the new rulebook and familiarize yourself with where everything is located.
The 60 day timeframe requires the affiliate to provide the judge an equipment list and site description 60 days prior to the trial. If you are not receiving this information in a timely manner, please inform the agility committee or the business office.
The judge of record will now have at least 30 days to design courses. Courses must be submitted to the course reviewer at least 30 days before the trial. The course reviewer will return the reviews back to you no later than 15 days before the trial. Since there have been incidents of judges setting courses at trials that were not the versions approved by the course reviewer, we ask that judges re-send a final copy of any amended courses back to the reviewer at least 7 days prior to the trial. This will allow the course reviewer to have a complete set of the final courses in case of an emergency where a substitute judge will need to be used.

The committee is open to your suggestions and comments.
